To obtain a copy certificate (for a birth, death or marriage) you need to apply to the relevant district Register Office. Please check that your enquiry relates to the area covered by Newcastle Register Office. We can provide you with contact details for the Register Office you require if it is in England or Wales.
Newcastle Register Office will soon be offering an online application and payment service for copies of birth, death and marriage certificates.
Alternatively you can apply to the General Register Office:
If you do not know which district Register Office to contact, consult the General Register Office (GRO) Index. Civil registration began in England in July 1837 and the index lists names alphabetically for each quarter of each year giving the registration district in which the event took place. The GRO index is available in Newcastle City Library.
