  • You don't have to live in Newcastle to join Newcastle Libraries.

How to join

You can join at any of our libraries. You can also join online and we will post your ticket out to you. There's no need for proof of address, unless you wish to borrow audio-visual items such as DVDs and CDs. If proof of address is not presented you will be allowed to borrow a maximum of 2 items.

Members can borrow:

  • 10 books or other items
  • 10 music CDs 
  • 4 DVDs
  • 5 audiobooks or ebooks can be downloaded if you live in the North East of England.

We charge for borrowing music CDs and films on DVD or blu-ray.

Remember, you only need a library ticket to borrow items, use our online resources and to use our People's Network computers. All our other services are open to everybody.

Other items

Language Packs, Open Learning Packs, Spoken Word Cassettes and CDs, Free Loan Videos and Jigsaws are all treated as books so the total number of items not charged for can not exceed 10.

Online resources

Your library card allows you to access a range of different online resources via our 24 Hour Library including dictionaries, encyclopaedias, newspaper articles and more. Ideal for study, solving crossword puzzles or satisfying your curiosity.
